            New Student Orientation & Registration

            Who Attends Orientation?

All students that are new the NMC are required to attend orientation. Returning NMC students are not typically required to attend orientation. During orientation you will hear about being a student at NMC, learn about financial aid, and meet with an academic advisor to schedule classes for the coming semester. Here are the steps to follow before orientation and registration:

            1. Have your ACT scores sent to NMC and/or take placement testing.

NOTE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and because student safety is our top priority, new student orientation will be offered virtually in April and May. Online orientation instructions will be sent to your NMC email account. Determinations about on-campus orientation for future dates will be made closer to those dates.

What To Do Before Orientation & Registration

Complete this Pre-Orientation and Registration Checklist:

            • Applying For Financial Aid?

To receive maximum consideration, apply by April 1 or at least six weeks before you register. Application Information »
Check the status of your financial aid online through NMC Self-Service »
            • Placement Testing

Placement at NMC refers to the math and English courses that are the best fit for you to begin your academic plan. We can determine your placement by considering your high school GPA, SAT, ACT or GED test scores, previous college courses and college credit, or the Accuplacer placement exam. Learn more about placement testing here »
              • Placement testing should be completed prior to attending your orientation session. Without placement you won't be able to register for all of your classes. If you have questions or need placement, call the Student Success Center at (231) 995-2134.
            • AP (Advanced Placement) Credit?

If you have AP scores, call Advanced Placement at to have them reported to NMC. AP scores are not included in high school transcripts.
            • Transcripts

Have credits from other colleges or universities? If yes, official transcripts must be sent from each school to:
